These are the photos that I took between September 30th and October 30th and all the things that I saw while on the train, train stops, or hitchihikable destinations from train stops.  Unfortunately after many years the North American RailPass was discontinued on the day that I started my trip.

I find the best way to view the photos is to click on the first one and go through them one by one in the big view.   You can do it however you like though.

Please email me at phot@ography.us with any questions.

  • No matter what this photo will not be straight.
  • A concierge sweeps up leaves outside a fancy Ottawa hotel.
  • Amazing Ottawa staircase in a kind of out of the way place it just went up to a small two lane overpass, you could walk up both sides, a spiral staircase without a center column...
  • This girl was playing footsy with me in her sleep... I don't know why everyone on this train was asleep but me, but they were, it was a short trip between Ottawa and Toronto and we arrived on Canadian Thanksgiving.
  • After a huge homecooked meal and lots of alcohol we finished the night with a glow in the dark juggling performance put on by our host. It was an impressive show.
  • This was one of my first pictures from 'The Canadian' line, which had an observatory car that I spent most of my time in. The Canadian goes from Toronto to Vancouver with lots of little stops in between, and hundreds of wonderful people at each of those stops, and lots of hours between the beginning and the end to talk to them.
  • The Canadian had three engines, three bubble bubble observation cars, three dining cars, and I'm sure three of lots of other things.
  • Low bridge, everybody down.
  • The first train sunrise.
  • My first and longest train friends, the Baldridges, traveled from Toronto to Jasper with me. They were wonderful and had lots of great stories. They sat in the front of the observation car for most of the trip. We had lots of small exchanges of facts and stories, eventually we parted ways and they were off to see the polar bears, I was jealous.
  • A tunnel!
  • The last of high ground for a while as we entered the great plains.
  • Sunrise 2, the land was flat, we wizzed by train traffic on both sides. Here boxcars receed to the vanishing point.
  • Lots of farm land utilized the rail lines loading up cars and putting them straight onto the tracks.
  • Rising Sun.
